The Illinois Center for Rehabilitation and Education -
Roosevelt (ICRE-R) 312-433-3100 V / 888-261-8561 TTY ICRE-R is located in the center of the medical district. The surrounding community is quite diverse and upwardly mobile. Rush Presbyterian Hospital, University of Illinois at Chicago Hospital, and John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County are within walking distance. Students have immediate access to the UIC student union, which has ATMs, restaurants, a barbershop, a bowling alley, and a small store. Also within walking distance is a shopping center with stores, restaurants, banks, and more. Just a few blocks away is the United Center, where students frequent many Bulls games, concerts, and other events. Public transportation, along with the ICRE-R private buses, allows students accessibility to the City of Chicago and its suburbs for shopping malls, movies, concerts, restaurants, sporting events, festivals, libraries, park districts, community colleges, grocery stores, theatres, etc. Students gain personal mobility and interactive leisure experiences. ICRE-R students gain entitlement benefits management experience through connections with the Social Security Administration and the DHS Division of Human Capital Development (formerly, Public Aid), as well as medical, housing, and other special services.
