Education
The
Education Department at ICRE-R uses a curriculum called the Life Centered
Career Education (LCCE). The LCCE curriculum is an education system
from the Council for Exceptional Children, which is designed to provide
ICRE-R transition students with important skills needed to function
successfully in the home and community. The LCCE approach addresses
the question, "What skills must the individual have in order to
become a more effective person?" Unlike traditional school curriculums,
the LCCE curriculum addresses a more functional level of academic subjects
to enhance the student's future independence.
In addition to the LCCE curriculum, many students attend local community
schools to complete their K-12 educational requirements. These students
receive assistance with projects and homework completion and have use
of the computer lab for study and research. The Education Department
assigns a teacher to each student to assist the student in managing
his/her academic program at his/her respective public school. The teacher
also works with the student's case management team to monitor his/her
transition needs as the student prepares to move to his/her adult living
situation.
In addition, the Education Department works closely with DHS/DRS for
post-secondary education. Students are encouraged to attend college
and/or take college classes.
The Education Department also coordinates the vocational component
of ICRE-R's transition program and works with DHS/DRS to help students
get involved in various vocational training and job experience opportunities,
including:
- Partnership with "Wheely Entrepreneurial Association"
for job training and experience in their gift basket business.
- Vocational training opportunities with our "Oh Sew Personal";
sewing and embroidery program.
- Working in our student operated school store known as the Panther
Pantry.· Many other opportunities, both on-site and in the
community.
